Reasons Why Evolution is Wrong

Underlying assumptions undermine evolution

I

n large part, Darwinian evolution has captured the minds of the scientific community and the academic world. Many believe in the ideas of evolution because of it is the main message being told. But saying something repeatedly or the loudest doesn't make it true. Here are some reasons why evolution is wrong and should be discarded.

Defining terms: ‘Evolution’

Evolution is a broad term with many applications. When I speak of evolution, I am talking about traditional Darwinian evolution which puts forth the idea that all living things came from the same source of life and that life evolved out of non-living material. This is "molecules to man" evolution or "from goo to you through to zoo". You can also distinguish between macro-evolution and micro-evolution. Micro-evolution occurs when there are changes within an animal kind, or family. You can see the differences between a German Shepherd and a poodle. Both are dogs but with changes over time (guided by human breeding in this case). Macro-evolution is the Darwinian theory that one species can change into another, such as the idea that mankind is descended from apes. Macro-evolution is the Darwinian idea addressed here that is untrue, unscientific, and deceiving many.

The Starting Point

Evolution attempts to explain the world we live in apart from a need for Creator God. This starting point brings with it numerable challenges that are not often addressed directly. In fact, scientists propose theories and present them as if they are true or certain to be proved when, in fact, they are only theories and have no scientific evidence to support the claims.

Underlying Assumptions of Evolution

To believe in evolution is to believe that:

  • Something came from nothing (or is matter eternal?)
  • Order formed from chaos
  • Life originated from non-living material
  • Information evolved
  • Reason came from non-reason
  • Morality is derived from matter

Something Came from Nothing

Dismiss God from your worldview and you must determine what started it all. Where did matter come from? If you believe in the "Big Bang" then where is the mechanism that caused the "bang"? There must be a beginning because we can't believe in eternal matter and energy. Scientists believe the end of the universe will be something called, "heat death" where everything "runs out of gas". For that to be true, there must be a start and an end.

It is a leap of faith to believe matter originated from nothing and eternal matter doesn't align with entropy and the laws of physics.

Order formed from Chaos

"The prevailing scientific hypothesis is that the transition from non-living to living entities on Earth was not a single event, but a process of increasing complexity..." (Wikipedia)

Evolution must believe in some way for the complexity of organisms to increase over time and for function to be added. Over vasts amounts of time, all the features of a human being must form. Sight must appear. Eyes develop. Tongue. Arms. Legs. All of these are said to have evolved from one, single-cell organism that somehow started it all. But entropy says things tend toward chaos and not order. So did the laws of physics go in the opposite direction for billions of years? Don't we need to reverse the laws of thermodynamics to see complexity increase?

As we observe living things, there is never an increase in information or complexity from generation to generation. There is only the loss (or corruption) of genetic information over time.

Life originated from non-living material

Abiogenesis is the proposed natural process by which life arises from non-living matter. The problem is that it has never happened. Scientists have tried to recreate the presumed circumstances from billions of years ago that might have existed and somehow "sparked" new life to be created. It takes a large leap of faith to think that living things could be generated by non-living matter. This would result in an increase in complexity and a jump across a divide that is impossible.

Life was created by God: the eternal one. He always has existed and is the only one who could create life.

Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created. Revelation 4:11

Information evolved

DNA exists in the cell of every living thing. DNA is the most complex set of information known to man. There is more information in every one of your cells than there is at your local library. Information does not evolve. We know that information only comes from intelligence. You must have a mind to create information. How could we think the most complex set of information evolved from random chance over billions of years? A watch is far less complex than the human hand or wrist and year we know the watch had a designer and a maker. Why would we think something more complex didn't have a Designer and a Maker?

All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. John 1:3

Reason came from non-reason (How did logic evolve?)

Is it logical that logic evolved? If evolution is true, then logic along with life would have to evolve from non-living matter?

“Nothing is what rocks dream about.” - Aristotle

Matter doesn't think. There is no logic intrinsic to non-living matter. Reason and logic are not able to evolve but must come from a Creator who is logical and reasoning.

Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." Genesis 1:26

Morality is derived from matter

Similar to reason, morality doesn't originate with a moral agent who can supply a moral law. We would not know what is right and wrong without a moral agent in the first Cause: our Creator God.

In the beginning: God

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1

This world does not make sense unless you start with God. The God of the Bible is the creator of all things. He tells us that He created is six 24-hour days and rested on the seventh. Mankind was created in the image of God which means we have emotions, logic, reasoning capabilities, and a moral sense. Because we are created in God's image, we are made to know Him and love Him forever. Sin ruined that plan for a time. Jesus came to provide a way back to God the Father, our Creator, that our relationship might be restored forever.

For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities--all things were created through him and for him. Colossians 1:16

Where have you placed your faith?

You have a choice to make. You can put your faith in a direction-less, person-less, unintelligent evolutionary theory driven by unintelligent forces, That theory hopes that with enough time and random chance you might see the following miracles:

  • Matter coming from nothing
  • Order formed from chaos
  • Life originating from non-living material
  • Information evolving from unintelligence
  • Reason coming from non-reason
  • Morality morality appearing from matter

Or, you could put your faith in an eternal, personal, loving, all-powerful Creator God who created all things in His infinite wisdom so we could know Him and love Him forever.

The choice is yours.
